Huawei the chinese brand has picked up on the stage a part of the future phablet, the Kirin 970 chip, the first chip with artificial intelligence.
More power for new flagships
The heart of the Kirin 970 is an improved version of the Kirin 960 integrated in Mate 9 and Huawei P10. There are still eight nuclei that compose it while counting 12 nuclei with respect to the graphic part. Here are its basic technical features:
- 10 nanometer process
- 5.5 billion transistors per 1 centimeter square
- Eight nuclei (4xA53, 4xA73, up to 2.4 GHz)
- Twelve graph nuclei (Mali G72MP12)
- LTE Cat.18 up to 1.2 Gbit / s
- Two ISPs for double image processing
- Mobile Computing Architecture AI NPU (Neural Network Processing Unit)
The details of the type of cores and their speed are not specified yet, but the specifications are interesting. Despite the number of transistors, the Kirin 970 is above the Snapdragon 835 and the Apple A10. However the most interesting detail is another: artificial intelligence. As the Winfuture magazine has anticipated, this technology can work up to 25 times faster than a conventional CPU consuming 50% less power.
Huawei’s Artificial Intelligence Engine works like most artificial intelligence systems based on neural networks and continues to learn. Among the tasks that can be done with the new technology integrated in the new chip are voice recognition, automatic detection of objects and people in photo and video and intelligent photography.
The debut with Huawei Mate 10
The new chip will debut in October. Mate 10 will be one of the best smartphone gamers in the year, as it was for its predecessor in 2016. It should be noted that the work done by the brand on the chip is certainly not limited to a single smartphone.
The brand will continue to work on artificial intelligence and use it in other chips and smartphones. For the near future, the Kirin 970 will be designed for high-end devices.
